Structured Workplace Learning

in Work Placement

WorkPlacement@GetSet (formerly known as the LYNVET Workplace Co-ordination program) has been working in partnership with high schools, TAFE campuses and businesses in the district for ten years to facilitate work placements for HSC vocational education and training courses (VET). The workplace component is a compulsory part of these courses and allows students to develop industry-specific skills and generic work skills in the workplace whilst completing the NSW Higher School Certificate. These skills are highly valued by employers and are of benefit beyond the workplace.

The students are placed with host employers for a minimum of 35 hours each year. Without the wonderful support of the businesses throughout the region the students would not be able to complete these HSC courses.

These VET courses include Automotive, Business Services, Construction, Entertainment, Hospitality, Information Technology, Metal & Engineering, Primary Industries, Retail and Tourism and are recognised by industry and the Board of Studies.

Previously, WorkPlacement@GetSet has only co-ordinated work placements for VET students at school and TAFE in the Leeton and Narrandera area.

This year schools and TAFE campus numbers have increased from 6 to 20 and WorkPlacement@GetSet will place 900 students across the 20 high schools and TAFE campuses, these include Ardlethan Central School, Barellan Central School, Coleambally Central School, Griffith High School, Hillston Central School, Kalinda Support School, Lake Cargelligo Central School, Leeton High School, Marian Catholic College, MET School Leeton , Narrandera High School, St Francis College, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute – Griffith Campus, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute – Leeton & Narrandera Campus, TAFE NSW Riverina Institute – West Wyalong Campus , Tullibigeal Central School, Ungarie Central School, Wade High School, West Wyalong High School, Yanco Agricultural High School.

The rest of the region is new to GetSet, but the team is excited about servicing the whole region and working with all schools, communities and local businesses so the students can gain the necessary experience and skills in the workplace.

Get Set is funded by the NSW Government to provide this service.
