Interview Tips – Stick to the Schedule

Once you’ve been asked to come in for an interview, it’s very important to stick to the schedule. Everyone’s time is valuable. Your potential employer has set aside time to speak with you about a role you’ve applied for. Chances are, you already look like the right fit for the role and they just want to bring you in to have a chat and determine if you are in fact the right fit for the job.

The old saying ‘you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression’ applies in this case. If you are late or need to reschedule your interview, it isn’t going to look very good and could ultimately be the reason you don’t get the job.

Set yourself up for success, arrive about 10 minutes early, dress well, have a copy of your resume and make sure you do your homework on the business you’re interviewing at. Try to understand who the business is, what they do, who they do it for and prepare some questions for the interviewer about the business. Ask questions like ‘how has the business changed in the last 5 years and where do you see it changing in the next 5?’
